Seasun Biomaterials, a company specializing in genome-based molecular diagnostics, announced on the 30th that it has developed a 'U-TOP™ MPX Detection Kit' that can diagnose Monkey Pox, a disease endemic to Africa. 

U-TOP™ MPX Detection Kit has been verified for performance and safety and certified for in vitro diagnostics (IVD) by the European Integrated Certification Standard (CE) on the 10th. Currently, it is in the process of approval as a product for export and domestic market, and the first export is scheduled to take place soon after receiving orders from the Middle East and the United States.

The diagnostic kit is a real-time polymerase chain reaction gene test method that can identify monkey pox virus within one hour after sample collection. Based on high sensitivity and specificity, the company expects that it will accurately and quickly trace the path of pox infection and contribute to effectively blocking the outbreak.

According to the guide presented by the World Health Organization (WHO) in May 2022, a patient with suspected monkey pox is first diagnosed as belonging to the orthopox virus family to which the pox virus and monkey pox virus belong. It is recommended to detect pox virus.

An Official of Seasun Bio said, "In order to quickly determine whether monkey pox infection is present, we have developed a product that can check whether monkey pox virus and orthopox virus are infected at the same time."
