SeaSun Biomaterials, MOU for Love Snail and Hearing Impairment Support Project

To help early treatment with hereditary hearing loss diagnosis and elderly hearing loss prediction technology

SeaSun Biomaterials, a company specializing in genetic analysis, signed a business agreement (MOU) with the non-profit welfare organization Love Snail on the 24th to operate a support project for the hearing impaired.
Love Snails is taking the lead in recovering their psychology and improving public awareness by providing artificial snail tube surgery (artificial cochlear implantation) and hearing aids to low-income deaf people, and organizing a clarinet ensemble for deaf youth.
Seasun Biomaterials plans to help detect hearing impairments early and perform rehabilitation such as cochlear implant surgery using hereditary hearing loss diagnosis and geriatric hearing loss gene prediction technology.
Since the prognosis of hearing impairment varies greatly depending on the treatment period, early diagnosis and treatment are important. About 50% of congenital hearing loss is caused by a genetic defect, and it must be treated before 6 months of age to achieve a normal child's level of speech ability. The company's related diagnostic technology is a blood-based test that can confirm the presence or absence of hereditary hearing loss at birth.
Park Hee-kyung, CEO of SeaSun Biomaterials, said, "In addition to genetic hearing loss diagnostic kits, we are researching products that can diagnose neurodevelopmental disorders early, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)." If so, we will expand support for the underprivileged with these diseases, whose prognosis is greatly improved.”
